"The Secret Door in My School Leads to..."
It was just another random Tuesday as I walked through the halls of Greenwood High, the same brick walls, cold and mundane as usual. ‘I hope Miss Hillary doesn’t realize I’ve bunked class for the 5th time this month’ I thought to myself as I continued walking through the empty halls.
It has been 6 months since I have been in this boarding school, and I could not be more excited to get out of this place. As I mindlessly walk through the hallway, I run my hand across the cold, damp bricks when all of sudden I stop in my tracks. Heat? These walls are always cold, that's how they were built. Why would this part be so warm? I stood there, confused, a million thoughts running through my head. “OUCH” I yelled as the heat got far too strong for my hand to stay on the wall. Intrigued, I place both my hands on the top and bottom of the wall. The whole thing was burning up. With as much force as I could muster, I pushed against the wall and to my expectations, it moved.
I felt as the bricks began to move like a door. I looked around me to make sure there was no one before walking through. It was a long, dark tunnel on the other side of the door. I walked through as I was far too curious to turn back now. It felt like ages of walking, and I was about to give up when I finally began to see a light of some sort. I ran to it, desperate for answers.
As I finally reached the edge of the tunnel the bright lights were blinding, and it took time for my eyes to adjust. When I finally got my vision back, my jaw dropped in awe at the sight before me. A forest? But not just any forest. Trees in so many shades of green I never even knew existed. Flowers like you had never seen before, all glistening under the bright sun. It looked so magical, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. “Hello” I jumped at the tiny voice from behind me. I turned around but there was nobody there. “Down here Mister!” I dropped my head down and to my surprise, saw a girl standing no higher than 6 inches tall.” Hi" I hesitantly said, “Who are you?” “My name is Lilly; you must be the chosen one!”. Confused, I asked her what she meant. Lily tells me that according to the prophecy her people have been given, a young man would one day come to save her people from The Dark One.
I listened intently as I watched more tiny people walk out from behind the magical bushes and trees. There had to be thousands of them. I listened to the story of how her family along with her people had been captured and tortured and tears pricked my eyes. Without much thought, I agreed to help them. I mean these people were tiny, how big could this bad guy really be? We travelled through the forest together as Lilly led the way to The Dark One’s castle and as we arrived, my stomach began to sink. His lair towered over 100 feet high and the monsters that stood guard had to be at least 10 feet tall. This was a horrible idea. But I couldn't turn back now.
Together we came up with a plan and managed to fool the guards into letting us in. As we entered the throne room of the castle, I swallowed nervously wondering what exactly this bad guy looked like. As I walked up to the throne, I stopped in my tracks doubling over in laughter. “This is the dark one?’” I laughed, he was smaller than Lilly was.
The only thing keeping him confident were his guards that were nowhere to be found besides outside the castle. I walk up to him and pick him up by the back of his neck and out of fear he tells Lily where he has kept the hostages. We free her people and to make sure the dark one never bothers the little people ever again we toss him into a glass jar and seal the lid. I help Lily and everyone else escape out of the castle and we return to where it all began. The people thank me and beg me not to speak of their existence ever again though I am most welcomed to return.
I agree to keep their promise and thank them instead for an adventure I would never forget. I return to my school through the tunnel. I watch as the door closes, and I smile knowing school was not that bad after all.
